Identification of Quality Improvement Actions and Technologies

The provision of quality care and safe treatment to patients is the most important responsibility of the healthcare providers and the healthcare organizations due to which they need to introduce, design, and develop strategies that are effective in maintaining positive health outcomes for the patients and improving the standard of care provided to the patients (Oldland et al., 2020). Quality treatment can be ensured by identifying the technologies and actions that are most suitable and effective for the prevention of health disparities and validating the positive health outcomes of the patients. A few technologies and actions are given below for the improvement of care quality;

Advancement of EHR

The technological intervention that will be most suitable in the assurance of quality treatment and prevention of health disparities is the involvement of the alert and alarm system in the EHR that will timely prevent health damages and increase the effectiveness of the staff members in managing the patient condition (Haleem et al., 2021). The upgradation of the hardware and software of the clinical facility to ensure the support of the improved alarm system in the EHR is necessary.

Effective Use of Barcoding Technology

The barcoding technology needs to be efficiently integrated into the daily practice of the nursing staff that will scan the patient information and the medication provided to prevent near-miss events and improve health outcomes (Grailey et al., 2023). The ineffective use of barcoding leads to errors that will create long-lasting harmful impacts on the patients and the healthcare stakeholders.

Analysis of the Workload of Pharmacist

The near-miss events occurred due to the ineffectiveness of the pharmacist in double-checking the suggested and prescribed medications due to the workload (Ledlie et al., 2023). The proper analysis of the workload is necessary to reduce the burden and increase the efficiency of the staff in managing a positive health environment by following protocols and guidelines.

Improvement in Communication Strategies

Proper communication channels must be designed and implemented to ensure the effective sharing of patient data with the healthcare provider and all the stakeholders involved in the provision of treatment to the patient to ensure that the information regarding patient history is effectively identified and analyzed by the healthcare providers and proper measure are taken to prevent near miss or any other adverse events.

Staff Training and Regular Feedback

Education regarding the prevention of medication errors should be given to the staff members and other stakeholders to ensure that they are well aware of their responsibilities and the performance guidelines for the improvement of their practices (Mutair et al., 2021). Proper feedback should be provided to the staff members regarding their performance in the clinical setting and their efficiency in adhering to the safety protocols and standards for creating a positive workplace environment.

Evaluation Criteria

The integration of evaluation criteria is necessary to find the effectiveness of the actions and technologies implemented to ensure that quality treatment is provided to the patients and that patients are satisfied with the staff’s performance. A few evaluation criteria are given below;
  • The decrease in medication errors is one of the major factors for the identification of the technology’s effectiveness.
  • An increase in the rate of patient satisfaction and positive outcomes will provide clear insight into the practice change efficiency.
  • Adherence of staff members with their responsibilities and protocols honestly.
  • Timely identification of health problems and the effective intervention of the healthcare providers.
  • Positive feedback from the patient family and increased well-being of the patient.

Quality Improvement Initiative

The proper quality improvement plan needs to be integrated into the healthcare facility for the prevention of near misses or adverse events and to increase the well-being of the patients by improving the performance of the staff members in the provision of health treatment to the patients (Mistri et al., 2023). The objective of the QI initiative is to prevent errors in medications by integrating technology in the medical setting for the improvement in the patient’s response and prevention of health damage. Considering the scenario of patient allergy the first QI initiative will be to implement an alert system using EHR for the early identification and timely prevention of the health issues leading to adverse events. Improving the staff’s adherence to the health and safety protocols and proper steps in providing treatment to the patients is the major factor in the decrease of adverse events. The staff members’ use of barcoding technology should be audited and responded to with regular feedback to ensure that they hold their selves accountable for their negligence in the patient treatment (Grailey et al., 2023). Moreover, communication between the interdisciplinary team members is necessary to ensure that they all are aware of the patient’s medical history and the prescribed medication for the effectiveness of the parctice. The staff training regarding the honest reporting of the near missed events will be effective in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.

Impartial Consideration of Conflicting Data

The effectiveness of the QI initiatives will only be evaluated if it identifies the confliction measure in the implementation of the practice change to ensure that all the areas of the concerns are taken into consideration and overcome (Tyler & Glasgow, 2021). The most important consideration is the identification of too many unimportant alerts in teh EHR that may increase the workload on staff members and result in missed alerts. The determination of staff ineffectiveness in using barcodes and improving strategies to ensure satisfaction with the technology. Integration of effective communication strategies keeping in mind the educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of all the stakeholders.

NURS FPX 6016 Assessment 1 Conclusion

The identification of the raisins behind the adverse events in the clinical practice is necessary to ensure that the proper healthcare strategies are implemented to prevent these events and improve the response of the patients. These events have a great negative impact on all the stakeholders including patients and healthcare providers which will badly impact the environment of the healthcare organization thus decreasing its reputation and increasing patient concerns about the quality of treatment provided  (Skelly et al., 2023). The root cause analysis will be needed to identify the reasons and the quality improvement actions and technologies to prevent adverse events and increase treatment effectiveness.
