Homelessness is a social problem that affects the vulnerable population daily. The lack of affordable housing, unemployment, natural disasters, mental health, and substance abuse are a few causes of homelessness that can contribute to the social problem (Jansson, 2018). There are several contributing factors associated with homelessness. According to Jansson, 2018 in 2015, more than 45 million people were living in poverty in the United States. Causes of homelessness affect individuals, families, at-risk youth aging out of foster care, veterans, women, and children (Jansson, 2018). Affected changings over time Homelessness was considered an unusual circumstance but had, over time, become a part of the political and social service issue (Hambrick & Johnson, 1998). The population of individuals, families, veterans, women, and children has increased since the 19th century, with millions meeting their basic needs. Homelessness's disadvantages affect education, housing, transportation, and hunger as a major social issue (Wilkins et al., 2016). Homelessness increased by two percent, with over 500,000 people experiencing Homelessness in 2020 (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2021). Social work values/ethics Food, clothing, and shelter should be a concern of society for all people regardless of their race or culture.
