Assessing the Problem Quality, Safety, and Cost Considerations

Assessing a patient, family, or population health issue is essential in healthcare management and decision-making. It supports practical approaches to complicated issues that patients or groups could face. This method involves the complete study of the causes of the problems that impact patient well-being in healthcare systems and the identification of proper treatments. By carefully analyzing the problem, the healthcare professionals and government policies develop targeted evidence-based solutions for improving treatment quality, increasing patient safety, and saving costs.

During my two-hour ward practicum, I learned about the disturbing rise in admission rate of individuals seeking treatment for heart-related issues. This is a personal concern for me because my mother suffers from cardiovascular problems caused by stress. I decided to approach her and question about her condition to gain a better understanding of the complication of her condition. She openly shared her medical history with me, which I will review later. This personal link strengthens my observations and emphasizes the importance of dealing with heart-related health issues in our culture.

Impacts of Heart Attack on Care Quality, Patient Safety, And Costs to System

The complex medical condition of a cardiac patient seriously impacts the quality of care provided, the safety of their treatment, and the overall medical costs. Heart Attack can be revealed in various ways, from medication management concerns to limited communication with healthcare providers. These heart-related issues can have severe consequences for individuals and the healthcare system. The impact of a heart attack patient on the quality of care is multidimensional. The concept of heart attack has evolved significantly since its first link with the physiological response to dangers. In the United States, heart disease is the leading cause of death. Heart attacks occur when a part of the heart muscle receives insufficient blood flow and are significant causes of heart disease, with an estimated 750,000 happening yearly. According to National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data, 47.2% of U.S adults have experienced heart attack symptoms. (Fang et al., 2019).

Medication management can be affected if the patient struggles to take the medication with proper attention, leading to uncontrolled health conditions and lower treatment quality. Heart patients experience stress that causes issues with inadequate communication between the patient and healthcare providers, making it harder for them to explain their symptoms, potentially leading to misdiagnosis. Missed medical appointments occur due to excessive stress levels, resulting in delays in diagnosis and treatment. These aspects lower the overall quality of care offered to the patient (Pederson, 2023).
